Travelling by Airstream Motorhome: Aspects to consider

In the next post, we will tell you a series of tips for travelling by motorhome. Travelling by airstream motorhome, camper van or camper is more than a trip, it is an experience of life. The duration of the trip, the kilometres to travel, the places we want to visit and where we want to spend the night, the services we will have access to, if we travel alone or accompanied if we want to go more or less unnoticed, among others, are aspects to take into account when preparing a trip in a camper van.

Here is a brief review of what you will find in the article:

What is it like to travel by airstream motorhome?

Airstream Motorhome travel is synonymous with v Qajar the house on his back. For this, the motorhome that we choose for our trip must offer us the same services and comforts that we have in our house (and that we are not willing to give up certain aspects). It will also provide us with great freedom of movement to discover spectacular places.

What do I need to bring in the Airstream motorhome?

Although the distribution and use of Airstream motorhome spaces are amazing, the truth is that it is a good way to start travelling with what is necessary, especially when it is travelling to the maximum capacity of seats. There is no need to be afraid of running out of clean clothes or forgetting something you may finally need. Laundries, where you can wash clothes, are everywhere, you just have to look for them. The same as food stores or pharmacies.

Take a small medicine cabinet strictly with those things and medicines that you may need. Everything else, you will be able to fix it on the fly. Do not worry about anything. Travelling by camper is not travelling in isolation. On the contrary, it is maximum communication when this is what you want. And absolute disconnection when this is what you need. You are free to choose where and how you want to be at all times. Also keep in mind that our campers are equipped with 4G Wi-Fi, totally free, so that anything or service you may need can be easily found.

Be responsible for the environment on your trip

Another of the tips for travelling by Airstream motorhome that we always give is related to the environment. Travelling in a Airstream motorhome is travelling being responsible for the environment. Let us try as much as possible, to carry out a plan to save water costs (it is estimated that the consumption of water in a camper per person does not reach 30 litres/day) by closing the taps when water is not necessary, from diesel driving as smooth and economical as possible, trying not to rev the engine and keeping the speed as constant as possible (using the vehicle’s speed regulator can be of great help) as well as saving the energy necessary to keep the temperature of the camper as comfortable as possible. For this, parking in a somewhat sheltered place can be a great idea.

On the other hand, and although the operation of the camper van is very, very simple, we must emphasize that the grey water and black water that we generate must be evacuated in places specially enabled for this. But do not panic, they are easily located and are duly signposted (gas stations, service areas for Airstream motorhomes, public and private campsites …). There is also a multitude of apps that help us in this task.

Also choosing a camper with installed solar panels is taking one more step and contributing to the generation and consumption of energy using non-polluting ecological means.

How do the waters of a Airstream motorhome work?

Below we will tell you the types of water that you will find in a motorhome (white, grey and black). How to fill and empty the tanks? What uses do they have?

The waters in the Airstream motorhome or camper van

One of the biggest concerns we may have when travelling in a Airstream motorhome or camper van is how to provide ourselves with water and how to empty the water that accumulates in the tanks, either the grey water or the black water.

Do not panic. It is much simpler than it seems:

Clean waters

The water supply in the Airstream motorhome or camper van

Providing us with clean water is very simple. All motorhomes and camper vans have a clean water tank installed that is easily filled at some gas stations, authorized points or campsites. This tank will be accessed by opening the cap that gives access to it with its corresponding key, from the outside side of the camper.

How to fill the clean water tank?

With a hose. No more no less. Although on some occasions the same hose is connected to the water loading point, the truth is that this is not usual, so it is important to make sure in our trip preparation that the Airstream motorhome or campervan has the hose with the necessary applicators that allow us to fill with water.

The use that can be done

One of the doubts that we are faced with regarding clean waters is… can this water be drunk? This water can be drunk if it is drinkable. But, taking into account that the water tanks are made of plastic, our advice will always be not to drink it and this regardless of whether we use water purification tablets, whose purpose more than making the water drinkable is to treat it and prevent the appearance of algae.

For the rest, namely, that the clean water tank is the one that supplies:

· Shower water

· From the sink

· Of the WC case of being fixed

· Kitchen sink

· The outdoor shower, if installed
